Full Description

At times, only a journey into darkness will lead us to our light. In Gifts of a Dark Night, celebrated author Thomas Moore invites you to consider those periods in which we no longer find any joy or meaning in everyday life—what Saint John of the Cross called "the dark night of the soul."

According to Moore, dark nights are not just low points or even bouts of depression. Rather, they are natural rites of passage—periods of separation and trial necessary for our maturation as fully realized spiritual beings.

Switching between lecture and question-and-answer segments, Gifts of a Dark Night presents three sessions of guidance for navigating a true dark night. Here you will discover the signs that you have entered a dark night; why a season of darkness is also a season of incubation; and how to embrace your darkness without becoming depressed or compulsively cynical. Most important of all, Moore explains how to discover just what qualities a dark night is trying to cultivate within you.

We need not fear the darkness, no matter how endless it may seem. With Gifts of a Dark Night, you too can travel through the inkiest shadows of the human experience and into who you were meant to be.
