31 Essays on the Gifts and Lessons from Our "Best Friends"

We spend countless hours training our dogs, but how often do we consider what they have to teach us? “Our canine companions aren’t just our best friends,” explains Tami Simon. “Sometimes they can also be carriers of a special medicine and the wisdom lessons we most need.” The Dharma of Dogs shares the reflections of spiritual teachers and writers who have found a source of deep truth and practical wisdom beneath the furry surface of our four-legged friends.

For anyone who loves dogs—and who has learned and grown through this special relationship—these 31 essays offer humor, solace, inspiration, and insight into the life lessons our dogs make available to us, exploring such themes as unconditional love, connecting with nature, facing our fears, and much more. Don't forget to add this inspirational book to your list of gifts for dog lovers this year.

About Tami Simon

Tami Simon started Sounds True at the age of 22 with a dream and a tape recorder. Though she had no experience running a business and only a vague idea of what she wanted the company to be, Tami had her guiding principle strongly in place: to disseminate spiritual wisdom. Over its 36-year history, Sounds True has grown into a multimedia publisher that has produced over 6,000 titles, has been included twice in the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing companies, and is North America’s leading publisher of spoken-word spiritual teachings.

Excellent sharing with people and their dogs.

I have a dog named Sadie now, who is 10. I have also had Jessie, and Toby. All three have given me love and companionship and a joy of life. Also exercise and the love of nature. They have jumped into lakes with me, gone on every hike, played in the snow while I snow showed,

slept with their heads on my lap, and barked at the air when they thought there was trouble. Sadie is an English lab mix, who smiles at me when she lies down on the grass at the park, after chasing her ball many times. People are amazed that she can walk all over the neighborhood without a leash, but she knows where to go. This book embodies all these qualities and more by people who feel dogs are their soul mates and love and experience their companionship with joy and wonder.
