“Spirituality is recognizing and celebrating that we are all inextricably connected to one another by a power greater than all of us,” says researcher Dr. Brené Brown, “and that our connection to that power and to one another is grounded in love and belonging.” With Rising Strong as a Spiritual Practice, Brené embarks on her first in-depth exploration of spiritual practice and how it relates to resilience, creativity, and wholehearted living.

Full Description

Spirituality, How It Makes Us Stronger

With her previous bestsellers, Dr. Brené Brown helped us realize that vulnerability is the birthplace for trust, courage, joy, creativity, and love. Yet a willingness to be vulnerable means accepting that life will sometimes knock us down. Where do we find the strength to get back up? In her research on resilient people, Brené discovered a key factor. "Without exception," she says, "the concept of spirituality emerged from the data as a critical component of resilience and overcoming struggle." On Rising Strong as a Spiritual Practice, Brené offers an in-depth exploration of this key aspect of wholehearted living, including:

  • The spiritual dimension of the Rising Strong process: the Reckoning, the Rumble, and the Revolution
  • A sense of belonging, how spirituality encourages us to be ourselves instead of trying to change in order to fit in
  • Why the sense of perspective provided by a spiritual practice helps us find meaning and purpose
  • "Are we doing the best we can?", How faith in humanity can help us become more compassionate and less judgmental
  • Why the spiritual understanding of death and rebirth are invaluable in the process of forgiveness

On Rising Strong as a Spiritual Practice, Brené defines spirituality as something not reliant on religion, theology, or dogma, rather, it is a belief in our interconnectedness and in a loving force greater than ourselves. Whether you access the sacred through traditional worship, solitary meditation, communion with nature, or creative pursuits, one thing is clear: cultivating your own approach to spirituality gives you an irreplaceable resource to help you persevere through hard times and arise stronger and wiser than before.

Old guy review

Brene Brown never seems to miss hitting a chord with me personally and this audio version is no exception. It seems the act of listening to the bullet point examples and the weight they lay on specific line items of interest, my mind will apply them to random incidences in my own story-lines which then triggers me missing the next several minutes of audio. Hence, her presentations are required listening many times over in order to not miss the total package..........and I'm grateful to have the opportunity. The "Spiritual" topic has recently been a focus of my own internalizing as the end of the tunnel becomes clearer and clearer. Thank you Sounds True and thanks again to Brene Brown.

Thought provoking, funny, life-changing!

I’ve read Brene’s books before, but listening to her present the book to a live audience was amazing! I think I actually got more out of it because of her funny stories, and her explanations of the various concepts. I loved the audience participation, too!

It was very thought-provoking, and I agree with her, a Rising Strong movement is just what we need to change the world!

So amazing

Brene does such an amazing job illustrating what it takes to live a wholehearted life. She sets the example by sharing stories from her own personal life and really owning her story. When I hear her speak or read her writings, I'm constantly struck by the profound simplicity of the truths she is sharing.Rising Strong as a Spiritual Practice is yet another amazing offering!

Essential to healing process

This presentation, recorded in Boulder, CO in late 2016, is remarkable. Dr. Brene Brown is at her best, describing her research on shame, courage, and vulnerability in her wonderfully down-to-earth style. Weaving how she's applied the steps of her "Rising Strong" data with examples from her own life is genuine, honest, and funny as hell. I can't recommend this audio presentation highly enough, personally and professionally.
