A practical way to explore an ancient, tantric yoga path that leads to inner freedom.
Full Description

One of the most enjoyable parts of a yoga class comes when we rest in savasana—the "corpse" pose—and realize deep serenity, a sense of effortless joy, and a glimpse into our true nature as unqualified presence. How is this so? Master teacher Richard Miller explains that this experience is a manifestation of yoga nidra, the meditative state of mind-body union at the heart of all yoga practice.

A powerful integration of book and audio learning, Yoga Nidra is an ancient tantric yoga path that leads to inner freedom. Through accessible language appropriate for any level of practice, Miller takes us step-by-step through the traditional techniques of relaxation and meditation to help us move toward the realization of "unqualified presence"—the ultimate aim of yoga—a goal unreachable through posture practice alone. Through his expert guidance, students will experience:

  • Deep relaxation for relief from day-to-day stress
  • The development of "one-pointedness"—a key to spiritual awakening
  • Healing from painful emotions, such as fear, grief, and anger
  • More effective and energizing sleep, and much more

Suitable for both beginners and advanced practitioners—but new to most Westerners—Yoga Nidra provides an unmatched way to experience the culmination of the art of yoga, and the deeper physical, emotional, and spiritual rewards that are its promise.

Includes digital access to audio tracks.

Excellent Book but the Digital Version Does Not Include the Audio Files, Which the Product Page Says It Is

I had purchased the digital version of this book in Amazon and then I found out that the Kindle version does not contain the CD/audio files, which is not stated in the product description page in Amazon, so I came here and bought it directly from the publisher. I started reading this book immediately and it seems to be a great book about Yoga Nidra. Concepts are well explained and the author seems to know his topic very well, and he also seems genuinely interested in transmitting the teachings properly to new and advanced students alike. It should be rated 5 stars, but since I purchased the digital edition and the presentation of the product states that the digital version contains the audio files ("Includes digital access to audio tracks"), something I was very interested in to start putting it in action as soon as the required preliminary reading was accomplished, but now I don't know where to search for them or how to access them. The eBook talks about the files being available at iRest.com, but it seems that I now have to spend another $50 to get them from iRest. Thus I am giving it 4 stars. Still, this does not detract from the quality of the contents, but I also feel disappointed. If it says the audio files are included, it should include them.

Very aggravating practice CDs

I was very excited when I saw and bought this because yoga nidra was my first ever experience of meditation in a 2 hr x 12 week class more than 20 years ago. I loved it, it put me on the path, and it is not widely known or practiced, so it's very hard to find teachers, even on CD. But Richard's meditations are aggravating in the extreme. The Satyananda school I learned from ask you to quickly imagine contrasting images during the meditation, but Richard asks you to bring to mind whole scenarios - like, remember a situation in which you were angry, or sad etc - and then gives you only a few seconds before asking you to remember another, quite different one. That amount of time is not even enough to locate a situation in memory, let alone bring it forth to actually feel it. I felt like I was being pushed and pulled around in all directions in some kind of horse race that I could never get my bearings to even begin. I gave up in great irritation after 5-6 attempts. Definitely NOT recommended as a yoga nidra practice, though the book's ok.

Review for Yoga Nidra

Richard Miller is profound and powerful. He is humble. A true master. Yoga Nidra is an ancient yoga practice that we are so blessed to have available to us.

I used it and overcame my lifelong karmic ties to my ancestors. In one session the cords were broken. Each time the Habit Energies return to inform me of a negativity, I use Yoga Nidra to clear. I use Yoga Nidra for everything

This life is our journey. We are blessed to take it in mindfulness and passion

Thanks for Sounds True. We love you Tami
